Disguised Toast Criticizes Organizations for Dropping VALORANT Challenger Rosters
In a livestream on July 28, Disguised Toast, the owner of the Disguised team and popular streamer, expressed his discontent with organizations that dropped their VALORANT Challenger rosters. These rosters had qualified for the 2024 season, but the long break before it starts led to their abandonment.
Toast’s frustration with the esports scene’s lack of commitment was evident during his livestream, where he specifically called out FaZe Clan, G2 Esports, and TSM. He criticized the practice of dropping entire rosters only to return the following year.
Organizations like FaZe Clan, G2 Esports, and TSM dropped their active rosters after qualifying for the 2024 Challengers NA season during the VALORANT Challengers NA Playoffs in June. However, since the start date for the 2024 season has not been confirmed, these organizations will have to sign a new roster for the next Split, leaving the players who got them there as free agents.
In his livestream, Toast questioned whether dropping the whole roster was a true show of support for the scene. He suggested giving the spot to an organization that genuinely wants to participate.
Although Toast’s comments were tongue-in-cheek, they highlight a trend of teams leaving the VALORANT scene. Many teams, regardless of size, are cutting costs due to an “esports winter” and are leaving less active levels of competition like the Game Changers tournament.
Disguised Toast himself dropped his Challengers roster on June 9 after failing to qualify for the 2024 season. He mentioned that he would re-evaluate DSG’s future in the VALORANT scene. Despite facing financial losses, Toast continued to support the Game Changers roster, which has now reached the upper bracket final where they will compete against Version1.
Overall, Disguised Toast’s criticism sheds light on the challenges faced by organizations and players in the ever-evolving world of esports.
