100 Thieves Fell Short in VCT Americas League, Missed Playoffs
100 Thieves’ hopes for a playoff spot in the VCT Americas League were dashed by MIBR in the 2023 season finale. Despite a standout performance from Cryocells, the team ultimately believes they didn’t deserve a spot in the playoffs.
Cryocells Shines in Final Weeks but Falls Short
Although Cryocells had an average season, he showcased his best form in the final two weeks. Playing as Jett, he led 100 Thieves to a crucial victory against FURIA and saved the team multiple times on Pearl. His outstanding play wasn’t enough to secure a playoff spot, however.
MIBR’s Victory Over 100 Thieves Ends Their Playoff Hopes
MIBR dominated the third map, Lotus, from the beginning, preventing 100 Thieves from making a comeback. While MIBR’s win was a matter of pride for them, it secured a playoff spot for Evil Geniuses at the expense of 100 Thieves.
Cryocells Voices Disappointment in Post-Match Interview
In an interview with Esports.gg’s Brandon Moore, Cryocells admitted that 100 Thieves didn’t perform well and didn’t deserve the playoff spot. He emphasized that individual performances don’t matter if the team doesn’t win.
Throughout the season, 100 Thieves had mixed results, defeating lower-ranked teams like KRU, FURIA, and Evil Geniuses. However, they struggled against top teams like LOUD, C9, and NRG. Close but disappointing losses to Sentinels and MIBR at the beginning and end of the season ultimately cost them.
A Lack of Staffing Could Be a Factor
There may be issues with the coaching staff. Analyst Wyatt River revealed in a Reddit clip that coach Michael “Mikes” Hockom is working alone without any full-time analysts or assistant coaches. This could be a potential hindrance for 100 Thieves.
Next Steps for 100 Thieves
100 Thieves must find a solution before the Americas Last Chance Qualifier begins in July.
