Community issues force Galorants Discord to temporarily shut down for one week

Galorants Temporarily Shuts Down Discord to Address Issues

Galorants, a volunteer-run group that supports VALORANT’s Game Changers events and tournaments for women and marginalized genders, has decided to temporarily shut down its Discord server to address various issues that have arisen.

The announcement was made on Discord and Twitter, and a longer explanation can be found on a Google doc here. GALORANTS has stated their reasons for the unexpected closure and their commitment to resolving the identified issues.

The problems began with a competitive ruling during one of the Game Changers Academy tournaments. A VALORANT player named Taffs displayed transphobic and unsportsmanlike behavior during a match. Initially, Galorants only issued a warning to the player, which caused community backlash. However, after the matter was escalated to Riot, the warning was increased to a three-month suspension on June 25.

More recently, a member of the Discord violated the code of conduct by discussing the sensitive topic of in-game teabagging in a designated channel for serious issues. The slow response from moderators led to the conversation spreading to other social media platforms and catching the attention of community members and NA VCT players.

Discord Shut Down Temporarily to Address Issues

In order to address these issues, as well as other concerns raised by the GALORANTS moderation team, the Discord server will be closed until Wednesday, July 6.
