Coach who led VCT-winning team secures new role, promotion at 100 Thieves

Tony “Zikz” Gray Joins 100 Thieves as Head Coach for 2024 VCT Season

According to reports, former Evil Geniuses assistant and VALORANT champion Tony “Zikz” Gray will be joining 100 Thieves as their new head coach for the VCT 2024 season. This move marks 100 Thieves’ first official off-season acquisition, leaving fans with anticipation for what’s to come in the next season.

Zikz, who played a crucial role in EG’s journey to becoming VCT Champions in Los Angeles, will be taking the reins at 100 Thieves, as reported by blix.gg.

While his departure from EG on Sep. 8 was announced, Zikz made it clear that he wasn’t leaving the esports scene for good. He stated that he was embarking on his “next journey to win another one.” Speculations arose that he would join another Americas team, and it seems those speculations were correct. Zikz will be remaining in L.A. and making his move to the 100 Thieves headquarters this off-season.

100 Thieves had a rollercoaster start to 2023, having a strong performance in LOCK//IN São Paulo by reaching the quarterfinals and only being defeated by Fnatic, the eventual champions. However, their performance in regional play was lackluster, with a 4-5 record and an elimination by Sentinels in the LCQ.

Now, Zikz faces the task of leading 100 Thieves into the next stage after his successful journey with EG. He has a talented roster to choose from, both within the current squad and in the pool of free agents. He will be responsible for selecting the right team, a task he is familiar with from his time with EG.

This promotion to head coach is a new experience for Zikz at this level, as he previously served as an assistant coach. However, with his experience working with players like Josh “JoshRT” Lee and Christine “Potter” Chi, he is more than capable of handling the position. The upcoming 2024 VCT season, which starts early next year, will determine whether Zikz can bring 100 Thieves back to their competitive status in VALORANT.
