Cloud9 defeats 100 Thieves in NA VCT Challengers One
In the first match of the NA VCT Challengers One main event, Cloud9 emerged victorious with a 2-0 win over 100 Thieves.
The game was played on Split, and Cloud9 dominated the first half against 100 Thieves. Although 100T won round three, they struggled to secure any more rounds until round 11. They managed to win the last two rounds of the half, resulting in a 3-9 scoreline. However, they performed better on defense.
The second half was more evenly matched, with neither team winning more than three rounds in a row. Cloud9 reached match point in round 22, but 100 Thieves only needed two round wins to tie. In the final round on Split, C9 managed to get the bomb down with milliseconds to spare, resulting in a two-vs-two situation. 100T failed to retake the site, and Cloud9 secured Split with a score of 12-10.
Cloud9 started strong on Breeze, dominating 100 Thieves on B site. They won the next three rounds and secured their bonus round comfortably. Although 100 Thieves managed to win round six, it came down to a one-vs-one situation between Asuna and mitch.
Round seven ended disastrously for 100T as they retook the site but ran out of time to defuse the Spike. Three members died in the explosion, forcing 100T to save in the next round and allowing C9 to extend their lead to 7-1. However, 100 Thieves managed to put up a fight in the first half, ending with a respectable 7-5 scoreline.
In the second half, Cloud9 started with another dominant pistol round, halting 100T’s push towards the A site effortlessly. They went on to win the next two rounds, including the bonus round where vanity stayed alive and prevented 100T from planting the bomb.
Although C9 reached match point in round 18, 100T managed to get the Spike down and prolong their defeat with a two-vs-two situation. However, C9 ultimately secured the game and match in the following round.
Cloud9’s next match will be against Evil Geniuses on Feb. 25 at 3 pm CT. Meanwhile, 100 Thieves will have a chance at redemption against The Guard on Feb. 26 at 6 pm CT.
