China’s Participation in APAC VCT Last Chance Qualifier Adjusted as Spots Shift to Japan and Korea

Changes to APAC VCT Last Chance Qualifier teams

The teams participating in the APAC VCT Last Chance Qualifier have been reshuffled, with Chinese teams being replaced by teams from Japan and Korea, according to an announcement from the VALORANT esports team on Sept. 24.

The decision to change the team allocation was made due to logistical issues that could potentially affect the tournament’s competitive integrity. As a result, FENNEL from Japan and DAMWON Gaming from Korea will be joining the competition.

The Last Chance Qualifier is an online event, and since VALORANT has not been officially released in China yet, Chinese players and teams would have had to use VPNs to compete on Hong Kong servers. This would have resulted in a suboptimal ping situation, which aligns with the logistical issues mentioned in the official announcement.

Interestingly, China has been absent from the VALORANT Champions Tour entirely, and it seems that they will not be competing in any Riot-official VALORANT events until 2022.

Aside from the reallocation of the China spots, ZETA DIVISION from Japan has chosen to withdraw from the APAC LCQ and will be replaced by Northeption.
