Challenges faced by skilled VALORANT players with these 3 agent picks

Agents in VALORANT Iron Tier: Yoru Struggles, Killjoy Dominates

The competitive games in VALORANT may not accurately reflect the reality of ranked play, especially in the lower levels. The lowest tier, Iron, has little in common with pro play aside from the maps. However, some agents are struggling across all levels, from the highest to the lowest.

Yoru is a prime example of an agent that has been struggling since his release. Despite repeated balance changes by developers to make him more effective, his win rates remain low in professional play and in the Iron tier.

According to data from website Blitz.gg, Yoru has the lowest win rate in Iron Two and Three, averaging at 45 percent. KAY/O and Harbor closely follow with win rates ranging from 44 to 48 percent across all Iron ranks.

These three agents are not easy to learn, especially Yoru. This could explain their low win rates in the lowest tier of VALORANT. Additionally, they struggle to carry games on their own as they are designed to provide information or cover for their allies.

Communication is generally not a strong point for players in the low and medium ranked tiers. This lack of communication further hampers the performance of these agents in those games.

On the other hand, Killjoy is an agent who dominates the Iron ranks. According to Blitz.gg, she has the highest average win rate in all three ranks, while only ranking around seventh or eighth in higher tiers. Playing as Killjoy in the low tier is a no-brainer. Her traps and turret can easily confuse players, especially those who are unfamiliar with the agent.

Killjoy’s traps can cover all the entry points of a site, allowing her to peek and shoot down enemies as they try to destroy her turret or activate her traps. For players in the low tier who are unsure which agent to choose, picking Killjoy can be a strong bet to climb through Iron and up to the Gold tier, where she still maintains the highest win rate.

Duelists like Raze and Reyna dominate the ladder in Iron, Bronze, and Silver. Raze’s bombs can catch enemies off guard with clever angles, while Reyna is a popular choice for solo plays due to her snowball potential. As the tiers get higher, their win rates approach the 50-percent mark.
