Be cautious of preseason hype as multiple professional VALORANT teams display strong performance in the offseason

VALORANT Offseason Produces Must-Watch Rosters

The VALORANT offseason is in full swing, with teams working to finalize their starting rosters for the upcoming year. While preseason hype is building, it’s important to remember that past performance doesn’t guarantee future success in VCT 2024.

Cloud9 has been a standout team during the official 2023 OFF//SEASON, gaining attention for their extensive gameplay and screen time. They embarked on a global tour, competing against teams from different international leagues in San Jose, Busan, Tokyo, and Colombia.

Although Cloud9 didn’t finish on top at Superdome 2023 in Colombia, they performed admirably throughout their journey. The spotlight shone on young duelist OXY, whose playmaking abilities and mechanical skill impressed audiences. With OXY adept at using both Jett and Raze, Cloud9 gains flexibility in their agent compositions.

Leviatán proved to be a formidable opponent for Cloud9, ultimately eliminating them from the competition alongside FURIA. Among the standout players, aspas showcased exceptional gameplay, continuing his dominance in the duelist role. Tex fit seamlessly into the team, while kiNgg displayed a Viper masterclass that stole the show.

Other teams across the VCT ecosystem also delivered noteworthy performances. Giants, led by in-game leader Redgar, claimed victory in the Crossfire Cup. Fnatic demonstrated their usual excellence at Red Bull Home Ground, and Sentinels remained undefeated at their own tournament.

While the excitement is building, it’s essential to temper expectations. Preseason hype doesn’t always translate to success in the regular season, as seen with 100 Thieves last year. Despite their impressive performance at Red Bull Home Ground, they struggled throughout the 2023 season, missing playoffs and exiting the LCQ quickly. Cryocells faced personal difficulties, affecting the team’s overall performance.

Similarly, other top teams from Red Bull Home Ground 2022 faced challenges in 2023. Cloud9’s previous lineup didn’t last long, Vitality struggled in the EMEA playoffs, and KRÜ performed poorly in the regular season, only finding success in the LCQ.

It’s important to note that OFF//SEASON results hold weight but don’t guarantee success in VCT. The upcoming season will be even more demanding, and as Evil Geniuses has shown, the teams that initially appear strong may face unexpected challenges on the path to becoming champions.
