After 2 years, VALORANT players may have discovered the first runboost on Ascent

VALORANT Players Discover a New Runboost Technique on Ascent

The chaotic tactical shooter game, VALORANT, is known for its wide range of abilities and weapons. However, boosting teammates onto higher ground has always been a challenging task in the game. The development team behind VALORANT purposely designed the maps with no runboosting options. Despite this, two popular streamers and ranked players, Grumpy and ZipTie, have discovered the first true way to achieve runboosting on the map Ascent.

Grumpy focuses on the character Neon, while ZipTie utilizes the abilities of Yoru. They utilize everything in their character kits to gain an advantage in competitive play. ZipTie, in particular, performs a self-runboost using a Yoru clone and a teleporter to reach high ground. The runboost technique they use involves each player helping the other to get to higher ground by standing on each other’s shoulders.

The specific area where this runboost technique is performed is in mid, on the defense side, just past the gate as you turn right. ZipTie positions himself at the corner and jumps as Grumpy moves underneath him. By spamming the jump button, ZipTie manages to land on the gate itself. After placing a teleporter, he repeats the process for his teammate, Neon.

The most impressive part of the technique is when ZipTie teleports to the same high ground and runs to the right before jumping off. Grumpy uses Neon’s run ability to jump on top of ZipTie’s head mid-jump, allowing him to reach the gate closer to the B site.

While getting onto the first gate seems relatively simple with practice and coordination, the second part of the technique requires Neon and Yoru characters. One character teleports back up, while the other runs and jumps on their head to reach the second gate.

Mastering this technique takes a considerable amount of practice. The Yoru player must follow a specific path to allow Neon to run and slide onto their head, granting access to a position similar to Jett’s on defense, but with more teamwork involved.

This runboost technique may not be consistently achievable in ranked games, but players who have the Neon and Yoru characters can surprise their enemies by attempting it before it gets patched by Riot.
