100 Thieves’ VALORANT Team Severs Ties with General Manager ddk, Hinting at Upcoming Restructuring

VALORANT General Manager Daniel “ddk” Kapadia Leaves 100 Thieves, Major Roster Changes Expected for VCT 2024

Rumors are swirling that a major roster overhaul is on the horizon for VCT 2024 as former esports caster and current VALORANT general manager Daniel “ddk” Kapadia has left 100 Thieves on July 31.

This news comes after 100 Thieves’ loss to Sentinels in the VCT Americas Last Chance Qualifier on July 16, effectively ending their 2023 VCT season as they no longer had a chance to qualify for Champions.

Ddk had been with 100 Thieves since March 2022, playing an important role in overhauling the team last year alongside then-head coach Sean Gares and assistant coach Michael “Mikes” Hockom. Mikes took over as head coach in October 2022 after Sean’s departure. Under ddk’s leadership, 100 Thieves had their best results with a playoff run at VCT LOCK//IN São Paulo in February and winning the Red Bull Home Ground three in December 2022.

In a personal statement following the announcement, ddk said, “Whilst I’m sad I won’t have the opportunity to carry forward all the valuable lessons of this year to continue building the program, I’m extremely grateful for all of the people I’ve connected with and the value those relationships will provide long into the future. As for what’s next for me, more to come on this in the coming days!”

The departure of ddk makes sense if 100 Thieves plans to make changes to their roster following a disappointing first year in the franchised era. As the former GM, ddk was responsible for signing five out of the six players on the team’s roster: Sean “bang” Bezerra, Brenden “stellar” McGrath, Matthew “Cryocells” Panganiban, Zander “thwifo” Kim, and Derrek Ha.

While it’s currently speculative, the community believes that 100 Thieves will make roster changes during the season and may even replace coach Mikes for VCT 2024. We can expect to see more moves once VALORANT Champions 2023 concludes on Aug. 26.
