100 Thieves Set to Compete in Isolation for Their First VALORANT Champions Match

100 Thieves to Compete in Isolation for VALORANT Champions Amid COVID-19 Outbreak

100 Thieves will be competing in isolation for their first match of VALORANT Champions against Fnatic, according to a recent announcement. The team’s general manager, Daniel “DDK” Kapadia, revealed that four players and both coaches had tested positive for COVID-19 but were recovering. However, subsequent rapid tests have shown that several players still have the virus.

As per Riot Games’ protocols, players affected by COVID-19 will compete on a LAN network in isolation. Due to the majority of 100 Thieves testing positive, all five players will be participating in isolation for their initial match of Champions.

Despite the positive COVID-19 cases, DDK stated that the team remains focused on delivering top-tier performance. However, 100 Thieves will not have the privilege of facing Fnatic on the main stage.

This marks 100 Thieves’ second appearance at an international event, with several players participating in their first-ever tournament for the organization. The exception is Peter “Asuna” Mazuryk, who competed at Masters Berlin in 2021.

It’s worth noting that 100 Thieves is not the only North American team facing COVID-19-related challenges in Istanbul. OpTic Gaming’s head coach, Chet Singh, also tested positive and couldn’t participate in the team’s match against BOOM Esports.

The team’s ability to compete on the main stage remains uncertain. Riot Games conducts daily COVID-19 tests for all teams to determine eligibility for non-isolated competition. 100 Thieves’ next match is scheduled for either September 3 or September 5, depending on the outcome of their match against Fnatic today.
