VALORANT Developers Address Queue Dodging and Knife Issues
The developers of VALORANT have responded to player feedback regarding queue dodging and knife mechanics in the game. In their blog post on February 15th, the developers outlined potential punishments for AFK offenses, including XP denial and rank deductions. They have now provided further information about queue dodging in a new post.
The developers have made it clear that the punishments are aimed at repeat offenders and will have minimal impact on occasional dodgers. The rank rating reduction for queue dodging is only three points, ensuring that the penalty is significant for those who repeatedly dodge queues. The developers acknowledge that queue dodging is sometimes necessary, such as to avoid toxic teammates, so they have implemented penalties that can be quickly earned back without impacting players’ MMR.
Knife Mechanics in VALORANT
Alongside the discussion about queue dodging, the developers also addressed player feedback regarding the knife mechanics in the game. The knife has gained more attention with the introduction of the new Escalation game mode, as most matches end with a knife round.
The developers admit that the knife is currently seen as more of a meme, meant to be used as a last resort or to humiliate opponents. They acknowledge that the knife hitbox is static and unintuitive, but they have prioritized other weapon balance issues for now. Interestingly, the developers initially planned to exclude the knife from Escalation but included it due to time constraints. They hope to revisit the knife mechanics in the future.
The new AFK penalties and potential changes to the knife mechanics are expected to be implemented in the upcoming Patch 2.04.
