YouTube launches beta version of Gifted Memberships, reveals additional information

YouTube Rolls Out Gifted Memberships Beta for Streamers

YouTube’s Gifted Memberships Beta is now available to a select group of streamers, as announced by Valkyrae and Lester Chen, YouTube’s global head of gaming creators. The new system will retain YouTube’s 70/30 percent revenue share, with prices based on the creator’s custom membership costs. Streamers will also have the option to purchase up to 20 gifted memberships at once.

Increased Revenue Potential for Streamers on YouTube

Previously, Twitch had an advantage over YouTube with its subscription gifting feature, allowing viewers to gift subscriptions to support their favorite streamers. This feature is now coming to YouTube, providing streamers with an additional revenue model and a built-in 70/30 percent revenue share. This move could potentially attract more users to YouTube as Twitch considers changing its own revenue-sharing split.

How Gifted Memberships Work

During livestreams, select creators will have the option to offer Gifted Memberships on their channels. The default price for these memberships is set at $5, but if creators use custom pricing, it will appear at their designated price point. Users who want to gift memberships can choose to gift one, five, or 20 memberships initially.

Request Access to the Beta

The beta is currently limited, but eligible creators can request access by filling out a specific form. More information on eligibility requirements and future rollouts will be shared as they become available.
