Valkyrae reveals YouTube is developing gifting features and a Twitch Prime-like offering

Valkyrae Reveals YouTube Gaming Developing Tools to Compete with Twitch

YouTube Gaming is stepping up its game in the streaming space to catch up with its biggest rival, Twitch. Valkyrae, a popular YouTube Gaming streamer, announced on her recent stream the platform’s plans to introduce new features.

YouTube has already rolled out features like clips and subscriber-only chats in 2021 to enhance the streaming experience. However, according to Valkyrae, the Google-owned platform is now working on gifted subscribers and a unique membership similar to Prime.

Although details about these features are unclear, it’s worth noting that Twitch Prime is highly regarded on the Amazon-owned platform. With Twitch Prime, users not only get a monthly subscription but also receive free games and loot for popular titles like GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2, League of Legends, and Genshin Impact.

YouTube’s recent signing of streamers DrLupo and TimTheTatMan exclusively to YouTube Gaming indicates its intention to invest money in streaming. However, the platform still needs to make improvements to offer a better experience for both streamers and viewers.

DrDisrespect, another well-known streamer, recently criticized YouTube, stating that the platform is far behind Twitch from a “functional standpoint.” Whether YouTube Gaming can make significant changes in the near future remains to be seen.
