Twitch’s Viewership Soars to New Heights, More Than Doubling Previous Records

Twitch’s Viewership Soars in 2022, Surpassing Pre-Lockdown Numbers

Twitch, the popular streaming platform, has experienced remarkable growth in viewership this year. According to data from Rainmaker.gg, Twitch witnessed more than double the number of hours watched in 2022 compared to 2019, which was the last year unaffected by pandemic lockdowns.

Impressive Numbers Reflect Twitch’s Growing Popularity

In September 2022, Twitch recorded 1.733 billion hours watched, surpassing the peak viewership of 932 million hours in July 2019. These numbers demonstrate consistent growth. Additionally, Twitch saw a staggering 2.059 billion hours watched in January 2022, more than twice the viewership of the same month two years prior.

Twitch Dec. 2022 data

Gil Hirsch, co-founder of StreamElements, emphasized the platform’s considerable growth, even as pandemic-related viewership declines. This data confirms Twitch’s sustained popularity and the undeniable impact it has made in the streaming industry.

However, it remains uncertain whether Twitch will continue its upward trend or gradually decline until it reaches pre-pandemic viewership levels. Various factors, such as the emerging influence of platforms like TikTok, could potentially affect Twitch’s future growth and dominance in the streaming market, especially if they start attracting streamers like YouTube.

Nevertheless, Twitch’s current post-pandemic viewership numbers indicate a strong position for the platform. It bodes well for Twitch’s success, and if it maintains this momentum, it can expect continued growth throughout 2023.
