Twitch suspends Pokimane for streaming Avatar: The Last Airbender

Pokimane Banned from Twitch Following DMCA Takedown During Avatar Stream

Famous Twitch streamer Pokimane has been banned from the platform after a live DMCA takedown occurred while she was streaming Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Reacting to Unauthorized Content Leads to Ban

Top Twitch streamers often watch TV shows as part of their streams, and Pokimane is no exception. However, not all content is approved for streaming by the copyright holders.

Platforms like YouTube and certain streaming services have listed specific shows that streamers can watch and react to. Twitch has a built-in Watch Party feature for approved shows from Amazon Prime. Sadly, Avatar is not one of these shows and can only be watched through paid streaming services or digital rentals. Pokimane’s live stream of Avatar put her channel at risk and resulted in a DMCA takedown.

This takedown occurred even after Pokimane had followed the advice of other streamers and deleted VODs, clips, and previous content in an attempt to avoid such a situation. Another streamer, Mizkif, was also watching Avatar but ended his stream, cleared the VODs, and switched content once Pokimane’s DMCA hit.

Uncertain Duration of Ban

It is currently unknown how long Pokimane’s ban will last or if any additional punishment will be imposed following the DMCA takedown.
