Twitch streamers aspire to determine their own subscription fees similar to YouTube

Twitch Streamers Petition for Custom Subscription Pricing Feature

A number of Twitch streamers are calling for their platform to adopt a feature similar to YouTube’s recently updated subscriber pricing, which allows content creators to set their own subscription cost.

In the ongoing battle for viewers and content creators, Twitch and YouTube, the two largest video hosting websites and livestreaming destinations, have been in fierce competition. YouTube has been making efforts to improve its streaming division by signing former Twitch streamers to exclusive contracts and continuously updating features to provide a better experience for streamers on the platform.

YouTube recently made a significant update to its subscription model. While YouTube streamers have always had the ability to choose different subscription price points, the platform has expanded this feature, allowing creators to select up to six different subscriber options ranging from $1 to $500.

One notable Twitch-turned-YouTube streamer, Ludwig Ahgren, gave his channel a $1 subscription option, encouraging current members to subscribe at a lower price point. The announcement garnered attention, and the streamer received a tremendous influx of $1 subscribers throughout the day. In response to Ludwig’s tweet, many Twitch streamers called on their platform to implement a similar feature.

“I hope Twitch allows us to lower our subscription prices, remove ads, and freely access follower-only emotes. That would make me happy,” wrote Twitch streamer Swooptick in a tweet. Other users expressed their inclination to subscribe at lower price points if this feature were available on Twitch.

However, some Twitch creators were skeptical about the possibility of Twitch implementing a similar feature. “I’m patiently waiting for Twitch to let me set my own subscription price, but I know it’ll never happen,” tweeted Twitch streamer Nikolarn.

While YouTube’s updated feature has gained traction among its viewers, it remains uncertain if other platforms will adopt this customizable subscription pricing based on fan and creator demand.
