Twitch Removes Cryptocurrency Payments from Its Platform

Twitch Removes Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash Subscriptions

Twitch, the streaming service owned by Amazon, has recently announced that it will no longer support subscriptions made with Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash. This decision has left some users disappointed and frustrated.

A user on the BTC subreddit has revealed that Twitch silently removed the cryptocurrency payment option for all countries over the past few weeks. Many users have expressed their discontent and have vowed to submit tickets to Twitch, demanding the reinstatement of this payment method.

It remains unclear why Twitch has disabled cryptocurrency payments. However, a Reddit user speculates that the complexity of Bitcoin may have been too burdensome for Twitch’s system, especially since it was being utilized by a limited number of users.

Twitch first started accepting cryptocurrencies as payment in January 2018. However, after just a year, the payment option has been removed without any official announcement. Twitch has not addressed this issue, leading many to believe that the payment system is gone for good.

In 2017, Bitcoin experienced a record high market share before losing its prominence the following year. While it was initially seen as a revolutionary method of payment that offered anonymity in the market, it eventually became more inaccessible. Various countries have implemented strict regulations for cryptocurrency businesses, causing Bitcoin’s popularity to decline.
