Twitch introduces long-awaiting Channel Points system for partners and affiliates

Twitch Introduces Channel Points to Enhance User Interaction

Content creators on Twitch now have even more options to engage with their chat room, thanks to the new Channel Points system. Unveiled at TwitchCon, this system allows streamers to give points to viewers for various actions, including following the channel, chatting during a stream, and simply watching the channel.

Viewers can accumulate points and redeem them for various channel perks determined by the influencers themselves. These perks include the ability to highlight messages in chat, gaining access to subscriber-only emotes, and more, regardless of whether or not they are subscribed.

Streamers now have the flexibility to customize rewards and adjust their points value, tailoring them to better suit their audience’s preferences.

Twitch’s introduction of Channel Points came shortly after Ninja’s move to Microsoft’s streaming platform, Mixer. Mixer had already implemented a similar system called “Embers,” which rewarded viewers for actively watching channels, regardless of monetary contributions.

During the TwitchCon keynote, CEO Emmett Shear explained that the motivation behind implementing this system was to recognize and reward loyal viewers who might not have the means to make significant donations or subscribe to their favorite channels.
