‘Twitch Faces Criticism: Valkyrae Calls Out Platform for Profit Maximization Error’

Streamers Express Concerns over Twitch’s Creator Revenue Changes

Following Twitch’s announcement of changes to their creator revenue system, many streamers have taken to social media to express their concerns. Among them is Valkyrae, who moved to YouTube in 2020. The popular YouTube star criticized the changes, claiming that they are negatively impacting the site’s viewer base due to an increase in ads.

“It’s strange to be at a YouTube event right now, speaking directly to executives, while Twitch focuses on profit. The excessive ads are killing your viewer base and hurting the creators who are the backbone of your company,” Valkyrae wrote.

Continuing her criticism, Valkyrae expressed her desire for both YouTube and Twitch to thrive in the streaming market. However, she believes that Twitch is currently falling behind.

The proposed changes to Twitch’s revenue split will require streamers to run more ads to compensate for the loss of income resulting from the new distribution percentage. Understandably, many creators are unhappy with this decision and have even threatened to leave the platform altogether.

Renowned Twitch streamer Asmongold also shared his thoughts on the changes, stating that they couldn’t have come at a worse time for Twitch, especially as YouTube continues to improve each year.

Valkyrae was one of the first major streamers to sign a deal with YouTube in 2020. Since then, she has collaborated with the company to enhance its streaming services. In response to her recent post, Valkyrae revealed that YouTube has upcoming changes that will benefit the platform.

“It’s unfortunate that these changes are taking so long, but YouTube has been keeping us updated on what’s to come in the future, and it seems promising,” Valkyrae wrote, referring to YouTube’s forthcoming livestream updates.

With the significant backlash against the proposed changes, it remains to be seen how Twitch will proceed as it approaches the implementation date of June 2023.
