Twitch Enhances Community Safety with New Ban System in Latest Mod Update

Improved Moderation Features for Twitch Streamers

One major problem that streamers face on online broadcasting platforms is the constant toxicity and harassment from viewers. To combat this, popular streamers have always relied on strong moderation tools to ensure their safety and maintain a positive environment. Thankfully, Twitch developers have introduced a new moderation feature on Sept. 14 to help streamers deal with certain individuals while interacting with viewers on a daily basis.

Sharing Channel Moderation Comments

After receiving feedback from the community, Twitch now allows streamers to share their channel’s moderator comments. This means that streamers can show why certain users were banned, providing important context for other channels. This is helpful in identifying toxic community members who may be hopping between similar channels.

Introducing Shield Mode

Twitch is also introducing Shield Mode, which streamers can access through Mod View. Shield Mode provides an immediate solution when streamers and their moderators are unable to control active harassment in the chat. It instantly activates various settings such as Follower- or Sub-Only chat, no first-time chatter mode, and required verification. Shield Mode is especially useful during sudden raids when multiple members engage in hate speech or other inappropriate behavior. Once Shield Mode is deactivated, all settings return to normal.

Creating a Safer Streaming Environment

Twitch has been actively adding features to create a safer space for content creators. Recently, streamers gained the ability to ban users from viewing their broadcasts entirely. While affected users can still log out and view the stream, they must go through additional steps to interact in the chat. These improvements contribute to making streaming a better and safer place for both content creators and their communities.
