Twitch Considers Implementation of Content Policy and ‘Mature’ Tag

Twitch Testing Major Changes to Mature Content Tag

Twitch is currently testing significant changes to its mature content tag, as reported by Zach Bussey. Although Twitch has not confirmed these changes, if approved, they could potentially allow broadcasters to stream sexually suggestive content without consequences, as long as they follow the new guidelines.

Current State of Twitch’s Mature Tag

Twitch has had a mature tag for a while now, which restricts access to certain streams based on age. However, the current tag is optional, not enforced, and used by only a small number of streamers. The proposed new version of the mature tag would have stricter enforcement but could grant streamers more freedom to stream suggestive content.

The Creation of an ‘After Dark’ Category

According to Bussey’s report, this new policy would essentially introduce an ‘after dark’ category, which would still be subject to Twitch’s existing rules regarding sexual content. Streamers within this mature category would still be prohibited from broadcasting explicit sexual acts or content implying such actions.

Types of Content Requiring a Mature Tag

Twitch has specified the types of content that would require a mature tag under the proposed update:

  • Sexual health education content
  • Discussions of sexual topics or experiences
  • Performing fetish content (e.g., body writing, feet webcams)
  • Groping of one’s own body
  • Prolonged kissing targeted at the camera
  • Facial expressions associated with sexual arousal
  • Sexually explicit camera framing
  • Suggestive dancing, including lap and pole dances
  • Sexually explicit art
  • Channel text, titles, or overlays with sexual content
  • Content encouraging mature conversations in chat

While this information is not officially confirmed, streams with the mature content tag could be less discoverable to Twitch users. Twitch has not yet released an official update or statement regarding these potential changes, as they are still gathering user feedback.
