TimTheTatman criticizes alleged Twitch subscription payment change, calling it detrimental for emerging streamers.

TimTheTatman Speaks Out Against Twitch’s Subscription Revenue Reduction Rumors

Popular streamer Timothy “TimTheTatman” Betar expressed his gratitude for no longer being on the Twitch platform during his June 15 stream. This came in response to rumors of Twitch reducing its subscription revenue splits, a move that TimTheTatman believes will negatively impact small streamers.

Twitch’s New Ads Incentive Program

During his stream, TimTheTatman discussed Twitch’s new Ads Incentive Program, which replaces the flat rate paid to streamers for every 1,000 ad views with a percentage-based model that offers 55 percent of the revenue for each ad. Twitch claims that this change results in a 50 to 150 percent increase in ad pay rates. However, TimTheTatman expressed skepticism and sees this as a concerning development for streamers, which aligns with the rumors of revenue reduction.

Concerns for Small Streamers

TimTheTatman expressed sympathy for smaller creators, highlighting that subscriptions were crucial for his own success as a smaller streamer on Twitch. The revenue from subscriptions was his primary income, and he believes reducing the revenue split would have a devastating impact on small streamers who rely on it.

Twitch’s Advertising Pressure

Comparing Twitch to YouTube, TimTheTatman explained how Twitch “forces” streamers to run ads while YouTube does not. He stated that if he were still on Twitch, he would have no choice but to run ads, which sets Twitch apart. TimTheTatman raised concerns about the frequency of ads on Twitch and how pre-roll ads have tarnished the viewing experience for viewers.
