TikTok Creators Mimic NPCs, Evoking Shock and Fascination

The Strange TikTok Live Trend That’s Blowing Up on Twitter

A bizarre new trend has recently taken over Twitter, originating from TikTok live streams. In these streams, content creators are mimicking non-playable characters (NPCs) from video games, resulting in a rather peculiar phenomenon.

On TikTok live, streamers (younger users may not be familiar with these individuals) are engaging in idle animations and repeating short video game voice lines or sounds known as “barks.” While this trend left many viewers confused, some immediately identified it as yet another fetish-driven phenomenon. This time, it’s an NPC fetish.

Prominent TikTokers, such as Pinkydoll and Cherry Crush, have become the face of this trend on Twitter. However, there are numerous other streamers who also portray NPCs. Apparently, this bizarre behavior is a continuation of the ASMR streaming trend. Personally, I’ve never been fond of those either. The idea of someone whispering into my ear while I’m trying to sleep is my worst nightmare. Although I respect others’ preferences, I’ll be steering clear of TikTok live for the foreseeable future.

These streamers are reacting to stickers sent to them during their TikTok live sessions. Similar to Twitch bits, each sticker they receive translates into cash, and they express their gratitude through corresponding sounds or voice lines.

While initially, people were confused by Pinkdoll repeatedly saying, “Gang gang. Yes yes yes. Gang gang. Ice cream so good. Gang gang,” this new normal is now being accepted and turned into memes.

Some of my favorite memes are the ones referencing Blade Runner 2049, but I’m also quite partial to a good Mad Men meme. Luckily, Twitter has not disappointed in this regard.

So there you have it. If you weren’t aware of this strange trend, my apologies for being the bearer of this information.
