The optimal race and class pairings in World of Warcraft Classic

Picking the Best Race and Class Combos in World of Warcraft Classic

Choosing the right race and class can be challenging in World of Warcraft Classic. This 16-year-old MMO requires more time and dedication than its retail counterpart. Once you’ve made your decision, you’re stuck with it until level 60, so it’s crucial to choose a race and class that align with your playstyle.

When it comes to race, casual players can prioritize their favorite race since it won’t make a significant difference. However, serious players who care about min-maxing should consider their race choice carefully, as it can have an impact on their performance.

Druid

Druids have limited race options in WoW Classic. For the Alliance, the only choice is Night Elf, and for the Horde, it’s Tauren. Night Elves offer +1% Dodge and Shadowmeld, while Tauren provides +5% Maximum Health and War Stomp. The differences between the two are minimal, but Tauren may be slightly preferable for players focused on tanking.

Hunter

There are several viable options for Hunters based on playstyle and personal preference. Night Elves have the highest base Agility, increased Dodge chance, and Shadowmeld, making them a strong choice for Alliance. Trolls are ideal for PvE on the Horde side, while Orcs excel in PvP.

Mage

Gnomes are the top choice for Mages in the Alliance, with +5% Intellect and Escape Artist. Trolls are recommended for casters due to their Berserking ability. Undead are also viable, particularly for PvP, thanks to their Will of the Forsaken.

Paladin

Paladins are locked to the Alliance faction, leaving only two race options: Humans and Dwarves. Humans offer improved sword and mace skill, making them the better choice for DPS. Dwarves have Stoneform, which is useful for tanking and PvP but offers little for DPS.

Priest

Priests have unique spells depending on their race. Each race has its advantages, but Dwarves stand out for the Alliance with Fear Ward, while Trolls are the preferred choice for Horde due to their Hex of Weakness.

Rogue

Humans and Orcs are the standout choices for Rogues. Humans have +5 Sword Skill, making them strong in both PvE and PvP. Orcs are ideal for Horde, offering Blood Fury for pure DPS and stun resist for PvP.

Shaman

Shaman, the Horde’s equivalent of Paladins, have viable options depending on their spec. Trolls are recommended for Elemental and Resto Shamans, while Orcs’ Blood Fury and Axe specialization fit well with Enhancement Shamans. Orcs also excel in PvP due to their stun resist.

Warlock

Gnomes are the best option for Warlocks in terms of raw damage thanks to their increased intellect. Escape Artist is also valuable for PvP. Among the Horde races, Orcs and Undead are viable for PvE, with stun resist being the standout choice for PvP.

Warrior

For tanking warriors, Humans and Dwarves are decent options for the Alliance, while Taurens are usually the strongest tanks for the Horde. Taurens have increased health and War Stomp, making them ideal for raiding. Orcs are the best all-around Warrior race for DPS, with Blood Fury, Axe Specialization, and a stun resist.
