Pokimane Opens up About the Challenges Faced by Female Streamers on Twitch
The renowned streamer Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys recently shed light on the issue of female streamers censoring themselves on Twitch due to the negative treatment she has received when expressing her honest opinions.
In a livestream on June 27, Pokimane responded to a viewer who mentioned the lack of support from other women on the rival streaming platform, Kick. She revealed, “The sad truth is that the way people treat me discourages other women in the industry from speaking openly or acting as they truly want to because they know the kind of treatment they can expect.”
Pokimane has faced criticism for her stance against Kick, particularly its association with the gambling platform Stake. During a livestream on June 21, she made it clear that she values her integrity over monetary gain by stating, “I would rather make zero dollars and keep my dignity” when asked if she would join Kick for a significant sum of money.
She also shared an incident involving another female streamer who was afraid to go live without makeup because of the harassment Pokimane faced for the same reason back in 2018.
Pokimane expressed her disappointment, saying, “She was like, ‘I’m way too scared to stream without makeup because I saw what people did to you.’ That’s so sad. The whole reason I stream ‘Get ready with me’ is to show people it’s normal.”

Pokimane’s live reaction to xQc’s exclusive deal with Kick sparked intense reactions from other content creators on June 21. She engaged in a heated conversation with xQc during a group call on a livestream later that day, and fellow streamer Amouranth accused her of seeking attention.
Despite the surge of streamers flocking to Kick due to its lucrative exclusivity deals and growing audience, it is unlikely that we will see Pokimane streaming on Kick anytime soon.
