Summer Games Raise Over $2 Million for Doctors Without Borders

Summer Games Done Quick Raises Over $2 Million for Doctors Without Borders

In an impressive display of support, the speedrunning community successfully raised over $2 million for Doctors Without Borders during the 2020 edition of Summer Games Done Quick. This year, the event took place entirely online due to current circumstances.

In the thrilling final run of the event, a Pokémon Shield speedrun by eddaket, the total donations exceeded the event’s second goal, ultimately reaching an outstanding $2,308,922.84. This achievement emphasizes the generosity and dedication of the speedrunning community.

Successful Transition to an Online Format

The speedrunners participating in SGDQ 2020 demonstrated their adaptability and determination as they seamlessly hosted their segments remotely. With the assistance of the event staff, the week-long schedule proceeded smoothly. While the absence of the usual energetic crowd and live cheering was noticeable, the broadcast’s quality and the runs themselves remained incredibly impressive. Additionally, the remote setup allowed for striking static shots during some of the newer runs.

Continuing the Tradition of Fundraising Success

Although this year’s raised funds did not surpass the outstanding $3,039,596 raised in SGDQ 2019, the event still managed to uphold the seven-year tradition of Games Done Quick, consistently surpassing the $1 million mark for charitable donations. This remarkable achievement occurred during another Pokémon run, specifically JP Xinnam and PulseEffects’ race of FireRed/LeafGreen.
