Summer Games Done Quick 2020 transitions to an online-exclusive format

Summer Games Done Quick Goes Online for 2020

Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) has made the decision to cancel its physical event scheduled for this summer and instead host the event online, according to an announcement made by GDQ today.

Originally set to take place in Bloomington, Minnesota, SGDQ 2020 will now be streamed online from August 16 to 23. The event will be in support of Doctors Without Borders.

Adapting to the Global Pandemic

Kasumi Yogi, the director of marketing and business development at Games Done Quick, expressed gratitude towards the community for their patience during the decision-making process. Yogi stated, “We’re excited to continue showcasing some of the most talented speedrunners in the world while observing best practices to keep everyone safe in the midst of a global pandemic.”

A Legacy of Giving Back

Since 2010, GDQ has raised over $26 million for various charities, including Doctors Without Borders, Prevent Cancer Foundation, Direct Relief, AbleGamers, and the Organization for Autism Research.

Supporting a Worthy Cause

Jeremy Wells, fundraising manager at Doctors Without Borders, commented on the decision, saying, “We are extremely excited that SGDQ will be held online this year. We’ll be able to keep up the momentum of MSF’s biggest annual global fundraiser while also acknowledging the challenges we are all facing during these unprecedented times.”

The entire event will be live-streamed on the GDQ Twitch channel this summer.
