Streamers and fans unite to request the lifting of the temporary suspension on Reckful’s re-run Twitch channel

Twitch Temporarily Bans Re-Run Channel Honoring Late Streamer Reckful

The re-run channel that broadcasts VODs of the late streamer Reckful has been temporarily banned by Twitch today.

Reckful was a popular Twitch streamer known for his World of Warcraft and IRL livestreaming content. He passed away on July 2, 2020. Following his death, former moderators created a 24/7 re-run channel that played his past VODs.

The re-run channel has faced various obstacles that could potentially remove the active community from Twitch. On May 20, 2022, leaks suggested that Twitch might remove the re-run feature, which would effectively shut down Reckful’s memorial channel. For now, Twitch has temporarily paused its plans to sunset the re-run feature.

Reckful fans recently noticed that the re-run channel had been banned. A former moderator and editor for Reckful, Reddit user u/glassen75, claimed that Twitch took down the channel due to “distribution of Malware or Harmful Websites.”

However, the former Reckful editor countered this claim, stating that “the chat is well moderated and the only links on the channel are to the Rerun community Discord service and a Wikipedia page that contains suicide hotline numbers in various countries.”

Glassen75 mentioned that the community, along with prominent streamers like Esfand and Jaxerie, submitted an appeal to reinstate the channel. It didn’t take long for Twitch to lift the suspension, and the re-run channel reappeared without any notice.

The channel has not resumed broadcasting since being unbanned at the time of writing, but fans can expect the re-runs to start again soon.
