Australian Twitch Streamer Arrested for Assault, Re-banned on Platform

A popular Australian Twitch streamer, Luke “MrDeadMoth” Munday, who was charged with assault after allegedly hitting his wife during a live stream, has been re-banned on the platform.

The incident took place on December 9, when Munday was seen leaving his chair multiple times during the stream to assault his pregnant wife off-camera. Videos of the incident went viral, with audio capturing the woman and children yelling in the background. Munday was arrested by the police shortly after the incident. Although the woman reported being shaken but not seriously injured, Munday was charged with common assault.

Munday’s Twitch channel was initially unbanned, but it was later banned again after a few days of being active. Another channel associated with Munday was also banned. Despite several requests from , Twitch has not provided any comments regarding the situation.

Controversy Surrounding Twitch’s Unban Decision

It remains unclear why Twitch chose to unban Munday’s account while his assault case is still ongoing in court. Many people on social media have criticized Twitch for its decision, as users have received harsher punishments for relatively minor infractions. In February 2018, Twitch updated its community guidelines, which were not well-received due to their vague details about on- and off-stream behavior.

Kotaku Australia reported that Munday’s assault case is still ongoing in court, raising questions about Twitch’s decision to unban his account.

Twitch’s Response to the Incident

In response to inquiries from , a Twitch spokesperson issued a statement regarding Munday’s unban. The spokesperson emphasized the importance of protecting the integrity of the Twitch community and ensuring a safe and positive experience for all users. They also mentioned that Twitch constantly reviews its policies and practices to address specific incidents and adapt as the community grows.
