Streamer Amouranth’s actions raise concerns about potential violations of Twitch’s Terms of Service, prompting calls for suspension

Streamer Amouranth May Have Violated Twitch’s Terms of Service with Store Incident

Popular streamer and cosplayer Kaitlyn “Amouranth” Siragusa may have found herself in hot water with Twitch after allegedly lying to an employee about streaming from inside a store.

The incident occurred during one of Amouranth’s IRL shopping streams with her chat moderators. As they entered a clothing store to continue the stream, an employee questioned them about recording.

Off screen, the employee asked, “Are y’all videotaping in here?”

Amouranth replied, “Oh, we’re just video chatting, is that okay?”

If it was indeed just a video chat, the employee allowed them to continue.

This seemingly minor white lie appears to be a violation of Twitch’s Terms of Service. According to Twitch’s ToS, content that is inaccurate, invasive of privacy or publicity rights, or otherwise objectionable is prohibited.

The incident can be seen as an invasion of privacy since the employee implied that recording (and consequently, streaming) was against the store’s rules and Amouranth falsely claimed to be only “video chatting.”

In a similar incident back in May 2018, Amouranth received a 24-hour ban from Twitch for breaking the same rule of streaming on private property without permission. She lied to the staff by stating that she wasn’t recording and was instead speaking with a trainer via Skype.

In that previous incident, she was asked to leave the gym due to concerns about other gym-goers being shown on camera without their consent.

The most recent clip of the incident quickly gained traction on r/LivestreamFail, with many skeptical that any punishment or suspension will be given to Amouranth.

There has long been a conspiracy theory in the Twitch community suggesting that female streamers are held to different standards compared to male streamers, with women receiving more leniency. Supporters of this theory criticize Twitch staff for appearing too friendly and biased towards certain streamers when making disciplinary decisions.

Situations like male streamers receiving seven-day bans while a female streamer involved in the same incident faces no punishment further support this theory.

In 2018, Amouranth’s temporary suspension was only for the last gym stream, leading skeptics to argue that each instance of the prohibited streaming should have been treated as a separate violation.

If Twitch determines that yesterday’s incident violates its ToS, Amouranth will likely face a longer ban due to her previous infraction.

The VOD containing the footage in question has been deleted from Amouranth’s channel, suggesting that she is aware of the negative light it presented her in.
