Riot permits content creators to use League music without concern of DMCA takedowns

Riot Supports Content Creators by Allowing Free Use of Music

Twitch has recently received backlash for implementing strict music guidelines on its streaming platform. However, Riot Games has come forward to offer its support to content creators by allowing the free use of its music on any platform.

Riot has clarified that content creators can use music that is 100% owned by Riot. However, collaborative music that Riot shares ownership of may not be legal to use.

To avoid any potential legal issues, Riot has also created a Spotify playlist that includes a full list of music that is certified content creator-safe. The playlist contains over four hours of music, including symphonies and nostalgic tunes.

Riot has stated that it is working on both mid- and long-term solutions to address this issue. The company is also developing a more detailed guideline for the future use of all Riot-created music.

Meanwhile, Twitch has formed a business partnership with music sharing platform SoundCloud and has appointed Tracy Chan, the former Spotify for Artists product lead, as the head of product and engineering for music.

With more people watching Twitch than ever before and the platform establishing strong connections within the music industry, rightsholders may be growing increasingly uncomfortable with unlicensed music being used in VODs published by users on the platform.

While content creators await further information from Twitch on this issue, Riot’s music can provide a soothing soundtrack for everyone to enjoy.
