OfflineTV’s Sydeon embraces a notable change at this year’s TwitchCon

TwitchCon San Diego Sees Increase in Female Streamers and Fans

TwitchCon San Diego was an eventful affair this year, with both positive and negative moments. However, one positive aspect pointed out by OfflineTV star Sydney “Sydeon” Parker was the increase in the number of female streamers and fans compared to previous years.

More Women Joining the Gaming Space

According to Sydeon, there has been a noticeable increase in female streamers on the Twitch platform, partly due to the pandemic bringing in new viewers. This trend was also evident at TwitchCon, where she observed a significant presence of women. Sydeon expressed her happiness at seeing women entering the gaming space, getting excited about Twitch, and having the opportunity to meet female fans.

A Notable Difference for Sydeon and Others

For Sydeon, the increase in female streamers and fans was the “biggest difference” she noticed at TwitchCon, and she found it “obviously really awesome.” Her sentiment was shared by Jeremy “DisguisedToast” Wang and William “Scarra” Li.

The Gender Imbalance in the Streaming Industry

The streaming industry has historically been dominated by male streamers and viewers, and this remains the case. Statista reports that 80% of Twitch users are male, while only 20% are female. This gender imbalance also affects viewership numbers, with Kaitlyn “Amouranth” Siragusa being the only female streamer in the top 100 based on hours watched across Twitch and YouTube.

However, there is hope for change. More popular female streamers are emerging over time, and it seems that TwitchCon saw a larger female fan presence than ever before.
