Ninja’s Brand May Have Benefited Despite a 33% Viewer Drop Following Mixer Move

Ninja’s Move to Mixer Doesn’t Bring the Same Success

Last year, Ninja took a bold step by leaving Twitch to stream exclusively on Mixer, despite being the platform’s most-watched influencer in 2018. While Ninja undoubtedly received a lucrative contract from Mixer, his channel on the platform has not been able to replicate the success of his Twitch channel.

Decrease in Viewership on Mixer

Since joining Mixer in August, Ninja’s average viewership dropped significantly. According to data from Stream Hatchet, Ninja averaged just 12,036 viewers from August to December 2019, compared to his average of 36,146 viewers on Twitch. His average viewership for the last five months of the year also dipped, with 2018’s average viewership being 57,648.

Competition and Decline in Airtime

Ninja faced competition on Twitch, with 126 channels averaging more than 10,000 viewers in Q4 2019, as well as 26 channels that posted more hours watched than Ninja’s 6.5 million during the quarter. Additionally, Ninja streamed 475 fewer hours in the last five months of the year compared to the same period in the previous year.

Ninja’s Transition Beyond Streaming

Although Ninja’s average viewership declined, he has expanded his reach through high-profile sponsorships, TV show appearances, and collaborations with non-endemic brands. He has partnered with companies like Red Bull, Adidas, and Samsung, and has made appearances on popular TV shows and YouTube series.

Despite the decrease in viewership, Ninja remains influential, as Twitter research showed that he was the most talked-about gaming personality on the platform in 2019. He even received his own customized Fortnite skin to kick off 2020.

Ninja’s move to Mixer may have provided him with flexibility and opportunities beyond streaming, making his growth about more than just hours spent on Fortnite. As an influencer, Ninja’s reach and influence extend beyond the numbers and day-to-day audience.

While the exact impact on Ninja’s income is unknown due to undisclosed deal terms, it is clear that he is evolving into a more influential figure rather than just a content creator.
