New Game Releases in 2023 That Could Break the ‘Streaming Monotony’

Twitch and YouTube Stars Call for Exciting New Games to Stream

As 2022 comes to a close, popular streamers like Shroud, Dr Disrespect, and Hungrybox voice their frustration about the lack of exciting games to play on stream. They are craving new and fun experiences to share with their audiences.

Shroud appeals to the gaming gods for a “solid shooter,” while Dr Disrespect expresses anger at having nothing to play but Warzone 2 and desperately seeks something fresh. Hungrybox, known for his dominance in Smash, shares his fatigue with games that seem repetitive, longing for unique adventures that break the mold.

These comments spark discussions on social media, primarily on Twitter, about the validity of their concerns. Gamers question if there are upcoming releases that can change the status quo and become the next big hit for streaming.

While Shroud and Dr Disrespect have a point that a handful of games dominated viewership in 2022, such as League of Legends, GTA V, VALORANT, and others, they fail to recognize that new releases also had their moments. Games like Elden Ring, Lost Ark, Overwatch 2, and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet made an impact, although they may not have captivated these streamers.

This oversight led to some calling out these big streamers for having an “extremely narrow” view of the industry and encouraged them to explore outside their comfort zones, which often revolve around shooters and MMOs.

However, there are fans who agree with their sentiments. They, too, crave fresh new games that revolutionize the industry, as seen with titles like Among Us and Fortnite.

What Can We Expect in 2023?

Upcoming releases in 2023 promise an exciting year for gamers. Highly anticipated titles such as Forspoken, Hogwarts Legacy, Destiny 2: Lightfall, and Diablo IV are among the potential highlights.

However, it is unlikely that any of these games will have a lasting impact on the streaming space. The League of Legends MMO holds the best chance, but its release may not happen until 2024 or even 2025 considering its development timeline.

Dr Disrespect’s game, DEADROP, faces a similar situation. While it has the potential to be an instant hit among streamers who enjoy competitive shooters, there is a chance it won’t be ready in 2023. An open beta could be released during the year, making it the next big sensation.

However, familiar titles that dominated viewership in the past will still be present. This suggests that another year of streaming monotony might be on the horizon, at least according to the perspective of superstars like Shroud and Dr Disrespect and their like-minded fans.
