The video quickly went viral, amassing 50 million views. However, some angry viewers denounced the video as “demonic” and accused MrBeast of exploiting people for profit.

Supporters Defend MrBeast’s Actions

Despite the backlash, many others came to MrBeast’s defense, pointing out that he regularly gives back in his videos and arguing that the endeavor was beneficial for everyone involved, especially the recipients of the vision surgery.

MrBeast Responds to Criticism

In response to the negative comments, MrBeast stated that people on social media often call on wealthy individuals to help others, but then criticize him when he uses his money for charitable causes.

Fellow YouTube star KSI and podcast host Lex Fridman also showed their support for MrBeast, with KSI calling out the negative critics on Twitter and Fridman declaring MrBeast to be a force for good. Many others echoed these sentiments on Jan. 30.
