MrBeast explains the challenges of constant camera interaction: ‘It’s harder for me to communicate with individuals’

MrBeast Talks About His Career and Screaming Into a Camera

In a recent appearance on the Lex Fridman Podcast, popular YouTuber Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson discussed his successful career and shared insights into what it’s like to constantly talk to a camera.

With over 127 million subscribers on YouTube, MrBeast is known for his major money giveaways and larger-than-life challenges. He energetically screams to engage his viewers and create excitement.

Picturing the Viewer and Perfecting Shots

When asked about screaming into a camera, MrBeast explained that he envisions a person watching the video rather than seeing a camera. In his mind, he focuses on what the viewer is seeing. He sometimes freezes up when he doesn’t like how something flows or how a shot looks.

MrBeast has developed the ability to simultaneously visualize what he’s filming from the camera’s perspective while looking at the camera. This skill has become second nature to him over the past five years.

Editing and Creating Videos

MrBeast also edits his own videos, which helps him see the final result and get a better idea of how things will look. For him, it’s more about creating a video than performing. Talking to a camera doesn’t make him nervous, unlike talking to a person.

He also wonders if this is normal for other content creators or if he’s just “awkward and dumb.”

The Importance of a Passionate Team

MrBeast has a team of people who think similarly to him and understand what type of content works. He lived with his CEO for a couple of years, constantly discussing his thought process. This collaboration allowed his team to study him and his speaking style, resulting in a cohesive approach to creating content.

Finding individuals who are “super obsessed” and fully committed to greatness is crucial for MrBeast. Having a passionate team makes brainstorming more productive and reduces his involvement in minor tasks.

MrBeast’s dedication to his craft and his ability to assemble a like-minded team have contributed to his success on camera.
