Major Twitch Streamers Face Mass Bans in 2022

Twitch Bans in 2022: Notable Streamers Who Faced Consequences

Twitch, the popular streaming platform, has experienced a surge in new content creators joining the site. However, this increase in streamers has led to a corresponding rise in the number of bans issued each year.

2022 has seen several high-profile streamers being banned or suspended from Twitch. While many of these bans were relatively short-lived, some streamers are still unable to return to the platform.

Destiny – A Controversial Figure

Destiny, one of the pioneers of political streaming on Twitch and a key figure in popularizing the Just Chatting subcategory, was banned on March 23, 2022. The exact reason for the ban remains undisclosed, but it may be related to the streamer featuring banned individuals on his stream. This indefinite ban remains in effect, and Destiny has taken to platforms like YouTube and Cozy.tv since leaving Twitch.

Narcissawright – A Series of Bans

Narcissawright faced two indefinite bans in quick succession in 2022. The first ban was due to accidentally showing NSFW content on stream, followed by a now-deleted tweet where Narcissawright made threats against Twitch staff. While she claimed no malicious intent and issued apologies, Twitch initially unbanned her but then re-issued a permanent suspension in response to backlash from other prominent streamers. Narcissawright is currently active on YouTube.

Sodapoppin – A Controversial Incident

Sodapoppin, one of Twitch’s veteran streamers, received a 14-day ban on April 13. The ban was a result of a controversial clip in which Sodapoppin applied dark makeup to a character in a character creation screen while using the term ‘blackface.’ Despite issuing apologies and claiming it was unintentional, Sodapoppin faced an initial indefinite ban. However, after 14 days, he was unbanned and has since returned to streaming.

Macaiyla – A Ban for Harassment

Former Cloud9 streamer Macaiyla was hit with a lengthy ban on June 4, 2022, after making a disparaging tweet directed at British people. This violated Twitch’s harassment and hate speech rules. While the ban came as a surprise to many, Macaiyla served only seven days of the original two-week suspension after submitting a ban appeal. She has since reflected on the ban and aims to improve her conduct on stream.

TheGrefg – A Brief Suspension

TheGrefg, a popular streamer in the Spanish streaming community, experienced a three-day hiatus from streaming after showing an NSFW image on March 25. Despite the short duration of the ban, there was significant outcry due to TheGrefg’s status as one of the platform’s most prominent creators.
