In response to the recent acquisitions of Myth and LilyPichu by YouTube, popular streamer Ludwig has called out his own platform, stating that there are still significant changes that need to be made before YouTube can effectively compete with Twitch.
The Issues with Streaming on YouTube Gaming
Ludwig highlighted three main issues that streamers face when using YouTube Gaming.
Firstly, he pointed out that creating thumbnails for livestreams on YouTube is a frustrating and challenging process. The current system for making thumbnails on the platform needs improvement.
Secondly, streamers on YouTube discover the constant fear of being hit with copyright strikes. This particularly affects those who frequently react to content during their broadcasts. Ludwig himself experienced this problem after switching from Twitch to YouTube Gaming in November 2021, with his livestreams being repeatedly taken down due to copyright claims.
Lastly, Ludwig emphasized the confusion surrounding past broadcasts on YouTube, noting that different streamers have varying approaches to handling them on their channels. This inconsistency can be perplexing for new viewers and needs to be addressed for better user experience.
The Need for Streamlined Systems
Ludwig believes that YouTube must streamline its systems in order to rival Twitch effectively. He suggested implementing separate tabs for videos, livestreams, and shorts on streamers’ channels, making it easier for viewers to navigate and access content.
However, Ludwig acknowledged that YouTube, being a large corporation, may take several years to achieve these improvements.
