Ludwig brings his YouTube community together to recreate iconic Reddit collab artwork on a new canvas

Streamer Ludwig Ahgren brings back smaller version of r/Place

Popular YouTube streamer Ludwig Ahgren has revived the beloved social art project r/Place in a smaller version. Originally originating on Reddit, r/Place brought users together to fill out a blank canvas by placing one pixel at a time within a fixed period. The project, which was first released in 2017, received a highly positive reception. Now, after a five-year hiatus, r/Place has returned in 2022 on a larger scale, with the canvas size increasing multiple times throughout a week-long event.

Ludwig Ahgren decided to bring back r/Place for a limited time as part of his eighth season of content. Recognizing that fans and frequent r/Place users were frustrated by the long waits between releases, Ludwig launched the smaller version of the project on Mosiac.ludwig.gg.

This new version of r/Place operates similarly to the original. Users have a limited color range to choose from and can only place one block every 138 seconds. To showcase the progress and changes happening on the canvas, Ludwig is hosting a twenty-four-hour livestream alongside the launch.

Within the first hour of its launch, the canvas has already attracted thousands of viewers and has made significant progress. However, there is still plenty of room for further contributions. Fans of the original r/Place will have to wait for years until the next official unlock. For now, they can enjoy Ludwig’s eighth-season kickoff with the revived project.
