Ludwig achieves new personal viewership milestone with chessboxing event

Ludwig Ahgren’s Mogul Chessboxing Championship Breaks Viewership Records

YouTuber Ludwig Ahgren hosted a highly anticipated chessboxing event called the Mogul Chessboxing Championship. The event showcased 18 creators competing in alternating rounds of boxing and either chess or Super Smash Bros. Melee.

Ludwig Ahgren’s chessboxing event brought the niche sport to the biggest stage it has ever seen. The event smashed viewership records, attracting over 280,000 concurrent viewers and a total of 2.9 million viewers so far. It became Ludwig’s most-watched stream of all time, the most-watched Super Smash Bros. Melee match in history, and the most-viewed chessboxing event ever.

The previous most-viewed chessboxing match was between Hurt Locker and Northern Powerhouse in 2020, which garnered 556,000 views on YouTube.

The first two matches of Ludwig’s event featured prominent Super Smash Bros. Melee players competing in the first-ever Smashboxing matches. The second match between Fiction and KJH quickly became the most-watched Melee game ever, with over 254,000 concurrent viewers by the end of the match, according to former Smash tournament organizer Aiden Calvin.

Although it fell just short of being the most-viewed Super Smash Bros. game ever, the match nearly reached the record held by the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Evo 2019 finals, which amassed 258,000 concurrent viewers.

Viewership peaked during the final two matches of the event. Myth claimed victory against Cherdleys, and DisguisedToast narrowly won against PointCrow. The Mogul Chessboxing Championship became Ludwig’s most-viewed stream, surpassing his long-standing tenure on Twitch. Previously, Ludwig’s most-watched YouTube stream was during Dream’s face reveal, which attracted 146,000 viewers.

Ludwig Ahgren, who recently won the Content Creator of the Year award at The Game Awards 2022, received overwhelmingly positive feedback from fans and participants. Many expressed their eagerness to return to the ring for future events.
