Is Weezer Venturing into VTubing? Rivers Shows Interest in ‘Giving it a Try’

The Rise of VTubing: Even Weezer’s Frontman is Considering It

The VTuber streaming trend, once niche, has now become a global phenomenon. Not only are many streamers contemplating the switch to VTubing, but even celebrities are starting to consider it.

Weezer, the iconic American rock band that gained popularity in the 90s, has made a mark on the music industry. With Rivers Cuomo as their lead vocalist, guitarist, pianist, and songwriter, Weezer has become legendary in the world of music.

Now, Cuomo himself is contemplating leaving the spotlight to become a VTuber.

On Twitter, the Weezer frontman expressed his curiosity about VTubers and found the concept “interesting.” In fact, he is considering giving it a try in the future, as indicated by his use of the hashtag #VtubingCrew.

Cuomo’s unexpected career update thrilled many fans. Some offered advice on how to become a VTuber, while others suggested creating a customized avatar based on their own experience in the field.

The idea of an iconic rock star performing music while hidden behind a unique VTuber avatar is undeniably attention-grabbing.

At the moment, this dream for Cuomo seems distant. However, that doesn’t mean it will never come true.

Countless influencers have considered VTubing after witnessing its tremendous popularity and recognizing its potential benefits. Kaitlyn “Amouranth” Siragusa expressed her understanding of the appeal of being a VTuber, where one can avoid revealing their true identity to strangers and reduce the risks of stalking and harassment.

In an interview, Amouranth stated, “If I were to start social media now, I would choose the VTuber route,” emphasizing the increased security it offers.

Even streaming star Pokimane has toyed with the idea. However, she faced backlash for streaming behind an avatar, with the community accusing her of “cashing in” on the trend and taking views away from smaller VTubers.

While some welcomed her, Pokimane still felt the need to apologize.
