Hiko discusses battle royales: “Excessive luck undermines competitiveness in games”

Battle Royale Games: VALORANT Pro Hiko Shares Thoughts

Battle royales have become increasingly popular in the esports scene, with games like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite leading the way. Recently, renowned VALORANT pro Hiko shared his opinions on the genre.

During a Twitch broadcast, the 100 Thieves captain expressed his belief that battle royales have “too much RNG” (random number generation) involved, which negatively impacts their viability as a healthy esport.

According to Hiko, “BR games are not very good esports.” He further elaborated, stating that a significant portion of success in battle royales is reliant on luck. This includes factors such as the random placement of the circle and finding valuable items like guns and ammo.

Hiko went on to explain that professional Fortnite matches often involve 20 minutes of looting before engaging in a final battle.

Battle royale games offer a unique shooter experience where players gather resources and fight their way through opponents until they are the last one standing. This starkly contrasts with traditional shooters like Counter Strike, where players compete on a relatively level playing field. In these types of games, strategy and precise gunplay are rewarded.
