Hasan receives Twitch ban following ‘targeted’ copyright strike; retaliates against claimant

Twitch Star Hasan Piker Banned for the Fourth Time in Career

Twitch streamer Hasan Piker has received his fourth ban on the platform, following a personal takedown request from Censored.TV. Censored.TV, a right-wing subscription channel, features shows hosted by conservative political commentator Gavin McInnes.

Piker briefly showed content from Censored.TV on his stream before analyzing and reacting to it. Shortly after, he received a copyright infringement claim, resulting in his suspension from Twitch.

Copyright Claim Leads to Suspension

Twitch deemed the copyright claim against Piker’s stream as valid, leading to his platform suspension.

Piker Shares Ban Details

Piker shared a screenshot of the ban on his channel, which stated that the content was removed due to a copyright claim. He also shared the email he received from Twitch, revealing that Censored.TV was the claimant and the ban was related to his December 6 stream.

In a tweet, Piker took a jab at Censored.TV’s CTO, Ray Aguilar, stating that the “free speech defender” was responsible for the takedown.

Piker Criticizes Censored.TV on Twitter

Expressing his frustration, Piker called out Censored.TV for abusing copyright mechanisms to silence criticism of their ideas. The tweet garnered significant attention, with over 13,000 likes in just one hour.

Suspension Duration and Previous Bans

Piker’s suspension this time will last 48 hours, ending on December 8. It is a shorter duration compared to his previous bans, which were related to his use of language, comments about the 9/11 attacks, and streaming while driving.

Although Piker rarely takes time off from Twitch, this ban forces him to take a break from streaming, which is not something he’s thrilled about.
