Growth in YouTube and Twitch Viewership Shows Rise of Non-English-speaking Streamers in July

YouTube Gaming and Twitch See Slight Viewership Growth in July

Both YouTube Gaming and Twitch experienced a small increase in viewership during the month of July, with non-English streamers dominating both platforms.

Data from Rainmaker.gg, StreamElement’s analytics partner, reveals that viewership in streaming has been declining since reaching over 2 billion watch hours in March 2022. However, in July, both Twitch and YouTube Gaming saw a slight growth in viewership.

Twitch’s viewership increased by 2 percent, while YouTube Gaming saw a 0.7 percent increase from June to July. It’s worth noting that July had an extra day compared to June, which may have contributed to the slight boost. In contrast, Facebook Gaming experienced a 0.2 percent decrease in viewership, although this decline is relatively insignificant.

Non-English-Speaking Streamers Make an Impact

One of the significant developments in July was the rise of non-English-speaking streamers on both YouTube Gaming and Twitch. Streamers like Gaules and Ibai held top positions at different points throughout the year, with Ibai taking the top spot in June 2022.

During July, half of the top 10 streamers were from Latin America, reflecting the growing influence of the Spanish and Portuguese languages. The remaining five spots were occupied by three English-speaking streamers, all of whom were in the top four on Twitch. Notably, popular Canadian streamer xQc claimed the top position.

Popular Games in July

The streaming landscape in July saw games like Fall Guys and Monster Hunter Rise dominating the charts. Fall Guys experienced a surge in viewership due to its transition to a free-to-play model, propelling it back into the top 10 games on both Twitch and YouTube Gaming. Meanwhile, Monster Hunter Rise’s new expansion, Sunbreak, led to a 147 percent increase in watch hours on YouTube, from 3.4M to 8.5M.

The Outlook for August

With Latin American viewership continuing to grow and a slight increase in viewership after months of decline, it will be interesting to see how August’s statistics compare to July’s.
