Crab Game Developer Cautions Streamers to Avoid Public Lobbies, Citing DDoS Attack Risks

Developer Addresses DDoS Attacks on Streamers in Crab Game

Following recent DDoS attacks on popular streamers, including Sodapoppin, xQc, and Nick Polom, while playing Crab Game, developer DaniDev has provided a response on Twitter.

The developer advised streamers to avoid public lobbies in Crab Game for a few days to minimize the risk of a DDoS attack. However, DaniDev also stated that efforts are being made to fix the issue.

Dani went on to explain the vulnerability that allowed the DDoS threats. Crab Game was built on the Facepunch Steam P2P network, which was fast but apparently insecure, as it could lead to IP leaks. Although Dani is in the process of changing the networking code, he warned that it will take several days.

Crab Game, inspired by the popular Netflix series Squid Game, is a newly released multiplayer battle royale on Steam. In this game, players compete in various mini-games to outlast each other.

Similar to the success of the Netflix series, Crab Game has gained popularity in recent days. It is currently the 38th most-watched game on Twitch, with nearly 2 million hours watched and over 24,000 average viewers, according to TwitchTracker.

However, due to the prevalence and severity of the DDoS attacks, many streamers may take a break from playing Crab Game. Hackers have already forced some of the game’s most popular streamers to change their IPs.

No specific timeline has been provided for the updates, other than “a few days.” Streamers and fans will have to wait and see if Crab Game can recover.
