Cancellation of the sequel, developers prioritize expanding content for the original Among Us game

The Developers of Among Us Cancel Plans for Sequel

The developers behind the popular party game Among Us have made the decision to cancel the development of a potential sequel. Instead, they will focus on improving the original game.

Over a month ago, Innersloth announced their plans to work on a sequel to the game, which was released in 2018 but gained immense popularity on platforms like Twitch and YouTube over the summer. However, these plans have now changed.

In a recent blog post, the team at Innersloth stated, “We have decided to cancel Among Us 2 and instead put all our focus into improving Among Us 1.” They also mentioned that all the content they had planned for the sequel will now be added to the original game. This decision comes with the challenge of delving deep into the core code of the game and reworking several parts of it. Despite the difficulties, the team is excited to bring new content to players.

Improvements to Among Us

Among the first improvements the team intends to make is upgrading the servers, with the hope of enhancing the gameplay experience for players. Additionally, they are working on introducing colorblind support, an in-game friends/account system, and a new stage based on Innersloth’s other IP, Henry Stickmin.

While no specific details were provided, the team stated that they have numerous other plans in the pipeline, but prioritization and organization are required to execute them effectively.

The Future of Among Us

Innersloth revealed that they have had extensive discussions about the game’s future and have pondered questions like when to cease work on Among Us 1 and what content should be included in Among Us 2. Initially, the decision for a sequel was driven by the outdated codebase of Among Us 1, which limited the addition of new content. However, seeing the game’s widespread enjoyment has motivated them to support it and take it to the next level.
