Asmongold weighs in on DMCA strikes for election coverage

Streamer Staysafetv Banned on Twitch for Watching FOX Election Coverage

Popular streamer Staysafetv recently faced a 48-hour ban on Twitch after receiving a copyright claim from FOX for streaming its election coverage. This incident has prompted Asmongold, a friend of Staysafetv, to speak out about similar situations and what streamers should do.

Asmongold’s Perspective on DMCA Claims

Asmongold shared his views on the issue, stating that ideally, no streamer should face a DMCA claim for rebroadcasting US election-related content. However, he also recognizes the realistic perspective that streamers should avoid broadcasting election content from major companies who do not genuinely care about the election.

Main Companies Prioritize Local Issues

According to Asmongold, some major companies choose to focus on local issues like plane crashes or shark attacks to attract more viewers, rather than covering international issues like drone strikes. This lack of genuine interest from these companies contributes to the challenges faced by streamers.

Twitch and DMCA Crackdown

As Twitch tightens its grip on DMCA infringements, streamers are becoming more cautious about the content they showcase on their channels and ensuring that they have the proper rights to broadcast it.

The 2020 presidential election dominated Twitch on November 3, with streamers like HasanAbi achieving record numbers. Hasan, a political streamer, maintained an impressive viewership of over 150,000 throughout his stream.
