Asmongold voices criticism towards upcoming “Covenant” system in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands

Asmongold Plans to Use His Influence to Improve World of Warcraft: Shadowlands

Twitch’s most popular World of Warcraft streamer, Asmongold, has returned from hiatus with a clear goal in mind – to make the upcoming game expansion, Shadowlands, better than the current version. With a large viewership base, he intends to openly criticize any features during the alpha testing phase that he believes could harm the game’s overall health.

Blizzard recently revealed some tentative plans for one of the expansion’s primary features called “Covenants.” Asmongold wasted no time pointing out flaws in the system that he firmly believes will not benefit players.

According to Asmongold, it is crucial for the community to voice their concerns as soon as possible. He strongly believes that if Blizzard doesn’t revise the way players obtain and access abilities, the system will be unsatisfactory and ultimately ruin the gaming experience.

Blizzard’s current plans for the covenant system lean towards forcing players to choose one of four covenants early in the expansion. Each covenant offers unique abilities to players and classes, but Asmongold fears that switching between covenants will be challenging, potentially penalizing players for their initial decision if it doesn’t align with their long-term gameplay goals.

Essentially, this system could harm players who want to switch their preferred gameplay content or who are affected by nerfs or buffs to specific covenant abilities. Asmond warns that discontent among players is inevitable when one covenant becomes objectively better than the others.

However, Asmongold doesn’t just criticize without offering potential solutions. In a Twitter post, he suggests that instead of tying abilities to unchangeable covenants, Blizzard could introduce an additional row of talents that players can modify easily, similar to the current game.

Implementing this level of flexibility would prevent players from being permanently penalized for choosing less powerful options.
