Asmongold triumphantly acquires the legendary Thunderfury sword in World of Warcraft Classic

Streamer Completes Quest Chain for Thunderfury in WoW Classic

Thunderfury, also known as the Blessed Blade of the Windseeker, is the most sought after item in World of Warcraft Classic. Yesterday, the top Twitch streamer for WoW finally completed the quest chain required to obtain the legendary sword.

While the actual questing involved in obtaining Thunderfury isn’t that difficult, the rarity of the required items makes it incredibly challenging to obtain. The first part of the chain requires obtaining the left and right “Bindings of the Windseeker.”

These two items can only be obtained from raiding Molten Core, which can only be done once per week per character. Additionally, the chance of the items dropping off of Baron Geddon and Garr is estimated to be around 3 percent each.

For Asmongold, he obtained the binding from Baron Geddon relatively early in Classic. However, he struggled week after week to obtain the remaining binding from Garr.

Asmongold has jokingly mentioned how looting Garr each week provided content for his stream, but his continuous failures made yesterday’s accomplishment even more satisfying.

To incentivize viewership during his weekly attempts, Asmongold promised his audience that if the final binding dropped and he obtained Thunderfury, he would gift 500 subscriptions to his chat.

During the live stream, Asmongold faced some technical difficulties while trying to gift the subscriptions due to the large amount of money required. Although he will receive a portion of the payment back, his debit card initially declined the transaction for such a large sum of subs.

After resolving some verification processes with his bank account, Asmongold was finally able to gift his chat with the subscriptions as a celebration of his achievement.
